Product Safety Specialist

The Product Safety Specialist will ensure that Trican is in compliance with hazard communication regulations for the sale and supply of its hazardous chemical products. This position will support the safety of employees, customers and the public by playing a key role in the development, distribution and compliance of hazardous chemical information made available to these stakeholders.


Author Trican Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and labels to meet legal requirements

Advise management, employees, customers, regulators and the public on health, safety & environmental hazards associated with Trican products

Assist in chemical hazard assessments of products under development to assist in selection of less hazardous products

Make recommendations on legislated requirements for classification, MSDS, labeling of hazardous materials for workplace use and shipping

Support Trican’s future transition to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS)

Experience & Skills:

Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in a health, biological or chemical science or related discipline

Master’s Degree in appropriate field preferred

Board certified occupational hygienist (ABIH, CRBOH etc) or Board certified toxicologist or similar qualification or currently pursuing certification

Minimum 2 years in chemical hazard assessment and communication to a wide range of audiences with varying backgrounds

Detailed knowledge of products used in petroleum, preferably well servicing, and/or chemical industries

Knowledge of MSDS Authoring software an asset

Working knowledge of Canadian Controlled Products Regulations and related provincial chemical hazard communication requirements, and TDG classification of dangerous goods

Awareness of US OSHA Hazard Communication requirements, and US DOT classification of hazardous materials

Valid WHMIS & TDG training, IATA and IMDG certificates and AIHA SDS Author Registration are an asset
