Our Jackfish Project is located approximately 15km (10 miles) southeast of Conklin, Alberta. We have selected Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) as the technology to extract 35,000 barrels per day of bitumen over the life of our projects. Total recoverable resources are estimated at over 300 million barrels.

We are looking to fill an exciting career opportunity for a camp-based safety professional. The successful candidate will join an established team providing direct safety services in a partnership with operations management to advance Devon’s health and safety objectives. The leadership of the safety team demands you are competent in safety principles, concepts, practices, standards, incident investigations, management systems and regulations. Well-developed professional judgment is required in planning and performing assignments.

This role is working 7 days on and 7 days off living at our permanent camp facilities (Thursday – Thursday). We offer transportation from Calgary, Lethbridge, Kelowna, Vancouver and Edmonton.


Plan, develop, implement and administer safety and IH programs

Review, interpret and advise on legislation, industry best practices, company policies, codes of practices etc

Auditing, data analysis reporting and presentations, Training, Inspections, Job Safety Analysis, Chemical Management programs, and the resolution of acute issues will be required

Observe, counsel and evaluate employee and supervisory safety behavior

Contractor management

NORM and Ionizing radiation management

Emergency Response

Liaising at all levels of the organization


The right candidate has a passion for safety and is always encouraging others to increase their safety in everything they do. Great safety advisors helps create buy in and provide the tools to the operational team for them to drive the safety program within their teams. They have a solid understanding of current safety standards, industry trends and a variety of methods and programs to increase safety awareness on a camp setting.

Additional Qualifications:

Professional certification or training in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene and supported certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)

5+ years experience in a safety-related discipline; oilfield operations experience is an asset

Proven track record in participation of safety management processes e.g. safety committees and working groups

Auditing and inspection experience

Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated computer competency with Microsoft Office software
